Uttan’s Velankanni beach witnessed thick layers of oil and tar balls washed ashore on Sunday morning. This was discovered during the regular Sunday beach clean-up by Ocean-Owe Foundation. The source of the oil—whether from a ship or an offshore discharge—remains unknown. Marine life, especially immobile species like corals, is at risk due to the spill.
