Teen from Uttan Chowka Falls Victim to Online Scam, Loses ₹3,000

Uttan Chowka, January 31, 2025 – A teenage boy from Uttan Chowka has fallen victim to a disturbing online scam, losing ₹3,000 to cybercriminals who manipulated a video call to blackmail him.

According to sources, the boy received a random video call from an unknown number. The scammers used editing techniques, mixing real and fake footage to make it appear as if the victim was involved in an inappropriate situation. After recording the altered video, the fraudsters threatened to leak it online unless he paid them money. Out of fear, the boy transferred ₹3,000 to the scammers, only to receive more threats demanding additional payments.


Realizing he was trapped in a scam, the victim approached local authorities. Cybercrime experts warn that such sextortion scams are increasing,targeting innocent people through fake video calls and social engineering tricks.


Cyber Crime Department’s Advice:


  • Do not accept video calls from unknown numbers.
  • Never send money to blackmailers; they will keep demanding more.
  • Report such incidents immediately to the Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) or online at cybercrime.gov.in
