Mumbai: The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have registered an offence against a landlord for failing to provide information while leasing out his flat to a foreign national in Bhayandar. However, no arrests have been made so far in the matter which came to light after a Korean national identified as-Park Sungin submitted an online application to the Bhayandar police seeking a no-objection certification (NOC) for extending his foreign visa on 11, January.
To verify and process the application, Sungin was summoned to the police station on 15, January. In his statement to the police Sungin revealed that he was staying in a rented accommodation in Bhayandar (west) owned by Mukesh Parmar (49) since 2, January, 2025.
After investigations, the police found that Parmar had violated the order issued by police under section 163 (1) (2) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) which mandates owner of properties to upload details of their tenants on websites to facilitate verification process by the local police.
Although Parmar claimed that he had duly submitted an online application through his lawyer regarding the tenancy agreement on 28, November-2024, the police claimed that the flat owner had not submitted Form C-an important document mandated by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) which is used to monitor and report the accommodation of foreign nationals to ensure their movements are tracked for security and administrative purposes.
Moreover, the flat owner had also defied the order by not submitting details of their foreign tenants/ guests in the prescribed format to the local police station within 24 hours. An offence under section 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) was registered against Parmar on Thursday evening. Further investigations were underway.
